Extra Curricular
And Enrichment

At St Michael’s, we believe in providing children with abundant opportunities to explore new experiences, discover their passions, and develop new hobbies. By encouraging them to try different activities, we help unlock their potential, allowing them to uncover their unique talents and interests. Our goal is to create an environment where every child can thrive and find what truly excites and inspires them.

Enrichment activities such as choirs and other music groups, and a wide selection of sports and creative art clubs, support pupils’ ability to achieve beyond examination successes.

Drama

Drama is an integral part of the curriculum at St Michael’s, offered to all pupils from Years 1 to 8. Through drama, pupils are encouraged to express themselves, build confidence, collaborate with others, and share the spotlight, fostering a lifelong appreciation for both film and stage.

Every pupil has the opportunity to perform, whether in front of their peers or the entire school. Each section of the school stages its own production, and any child who auditions and is committed to dedicating their time and energy is guaranteed a role. Recent productions have included Oliver, The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and Grease.

Music

Music is considered a vital component of a well-rounded education and plays a central role in school life. From Reception to Shell, all pupils have weekly Music lessons, and every child is encouraged to either learn an instrument or sing in one of our choirs.

Throughout the year, pupils are provided with numerous opportunities to showcase their talents both within the school and at external venues. Our vibrant musical community boasts four choirs, two orchestras, and several ensemble groups, all of which perform at a variety of events, including the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols and the Summer Concert.

Activities

The opportunity to try new things, to discover new passions and to develop new hobbies gives children a chance to unlock their passion and talent. We aim to give children as many opportunities as possible, to give them the chance to discover what their talents are, and to explore their passions.

Offering a wide co-curricular programme gives our pupils a better chance of finding activities they love and enables them to develop new skills. Through a mix of free and paid options, children can experience anything from jewellery making to surfing, textiles to coding. Whilst creating the time for extra games practice, maths and language clubs and additional ISEB pre-test support.

Enrichment

Education goes far beyond the ISEB, Jersey, and National Curriculums, offering an array of enriching experiences that inspire and engage our pupils. From Nursery through to Shell, students benefit from a wide variety of trips designed to enhance their learning. Jersey provides unique opportunities, from learning Jèrriais and exploring the island’s rich history, to participating in outdoor adventures during the summer months. Beginning in Year 3, our Trinity Term Activities Week brings pupils together for activities such as orienteering, abseiling, coasteering, and surfing, among others.
Beyond Jersey
We offer numerous off-island trips that expose children to new cultures and experiences. These include sports tours, choir trips, activity weeks, and ski excursions. In recent years, our students have explored destinations such as Dorset, Devon, Guernsey, London, the Isle of Wight, St. Malo, Paris, Italy, and Barcelona, broadening their horizons and creating lasting memories.
The Community

Shell pupils participate in a comprehensive ESG program, Young Enterprise, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, providing them with valuable skills and experiences. After completing their exams, our Year 8 students enjoy a diverse Enrichment Week that covers everything from writing CVs and managing personal finances to learning how to scuba dive. This well-rounded approach ensures they leave St. Michael’s equipped with practical life skills and unforgettable experiences.

We are proud to partner with Rathbones, whose support has been instrumental in shaping our ESG curriculum. This collaboration has sparked a range of impactful initiatives, from hosting the Festival of Change and building beehives to engineering and racing Green Power go-karts. These projects have been carried out in collaboration with local primary schools, further strengthening St. Michael’s ties to the local community and reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Forest School

Our Forest School is a key component of our holistic approach to education and emotional wellbeing within the EYFS and Pre-Prep curriculum. This dynamic, hands-on learning environment allows children from Nursery to Year 3 to become curious investigators and imaginative free-thinkers. Whether they’re embarking on a mini-beast hunt, using saws and hammers, or cooking in the mud kitchen, every experience is filled with adventure and discovery. We understand how much children thrive in the great outdoors, and we are fortunate to have a dedicated orchard and skilled staff who guide them in taking supported risks. Through these activities, children begin to develop vital life skills such as resilience, self-confidence, and independence.
